Part Time Bus and Coach Drivers 

Schooldays Only, Weekend Work Available

We are currently seeking bus drivers for morning and afternoon school runs in the Swale and Ashford areas. Work a few hours in the morning and a few in the afternoon, and have the middle part of the day and school holidays at your leisure. Enjoy having regular a regular job with familiarity and stability.

Our bus drivers work set rotas with no late nights and reduced weekend working. Our routes are generally rural and much more enjoyable than driving in some other parts of the world! 

Applicants must have PCV licence with either category D (full size) or category D1 (minibus only) and full Driver CPC.

The successful candidate will be a valuable member of our team and have the following relevant experience:

  • Fault finding, and carrying out repairs
  • Undertaking Vehicle maintenance, servicing and running repairs on a varied fleet
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained in accordance with the Company Operators Licence guidelines
  • Ensure all repairs to company vehicles are carried out in a timely manner
  • Preventative Maintenance
  • Prompt repair of all defective vehicles to the highest standard
  • The ability to work to the highest Health & Safety standards

In order to be considered for this role, applicants should be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • City and Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Repair and Maintenance, although qualification by experience will be considered.
  • Previous experience of working on coaches and buses such as Volvo, Scania, Mercedes and Dennis
  • PCV licence preferred but not essential (prepared to go through test) must have full driving licence with no more than 6 points to attend roadside
  • Have proven Diagnostic skills and Electrical experience
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and experience as a HGV or PSV Technician / Mechanic
  • Carry out routine inspections, maintenance and repairs on all makes of vehicles to DVSA standard

Hours of work are Monday to Friday, early 0530 – 1530, days 0730 - 1730

Saturday morning and on call are based on a rota

The things we offer you:

  • Salary will be circa £35000 to £40000 for the right the candidate
  • 45 hour week with enhanced overtime

Chalkwell operate a large number of coaches to UK and Europe, local bus services, London commuter coaches and local school services in and around Sittingbourne.

We can offer a range of contracts giving flexibility for those returning to work, or those who are looking for a new challenge and a change in career.

Who we are looking for:

  • Smart, professional people (who are 21 or over) with outstanding customer service skills and a real sense of responsibility.
  • Have full UK or EC manual car licence, with two years driving experience and no more than 3 points on your licence
  • No criminal convictions

You should be:

  • A confident person with good customer service skills who enjoys working and dealing with people
  • An excellent driver - you must drive regularly in varied environments and at different times of the day
  • Enthusiastic and flexible in your approach to work
  • Be prepared to work a mixture of days

Training will be provided in house and all candidates will be guaranteed a full time job with us when they have completed their training and qualified.
