A Royal Burgh since 1152 and the rule of King David I, Peebles has for many years been a market town cherished by locals and visitors alike for its picturesque and unspoilt character. Whilst staying at the wonderful De Vere Barony Castle in Peebles you will have the chance to visit Melrose Abbey a beautiful 11th century building thought to be the burial place of Robert the Bruce’s heart along with Jedburgh Abbey founded in 1138 with its remarkable Romanesque and early Gothic style buildings. We will also take in a trip to New Lanark - World Heritage Site, a beautifully restored 18th century cotton mill village in Southern Scotland. Lastly no holiday to the Borders is complete without a visit to Edinburgh; spend a whole day exploring the wonders of this captivating City.
