Two new fares initiatives have been announced by Sittingbourne-based Chalkwell.

Holders of Concessionary bus passes as well as those with Kent County Council Young Persons Travel Passes will benefit from better value bus fares.

Concessionary bus pass holders, who are entitled to travel for free after 9.30 am, until now have had to pay the full fare if they make a journey before this time.

Said Roland Eglinton, Chalkwell’s Commercial Director:  “We are pleased to announce that anyone presenting one of these passes for travel before 9.30 am will be able to pay just £2 to travel anywhere on our network.

“This will provide a significant discount over normal adults and they will still be able to travel for free after 9.30 am.”

He said holders of Kent County Council Young Person’s Travel Passes and 16+ Passes have only been allowed to travel for free between 6.00 am and 7.00 pm Monday to Friday.

“We are also very pleased to announce that holders of these passes can now travel anywhere on our network for just £1 outside of the free times,” said Roland.

“This also includes evenings and weekends.

“The only exception will be between July 31 and the start of September term when they receive their new passes.”

He added:  “This new offer provides young people with even more freedom to travel by bus with Chalkwell and get engaged in evening and weekend activities without paying the full fare.”

The new fares initiatives take immediate effect.
