Chalkwell Commuter Services
After 25 years of operating commuter services between Kent and London, it is with regret that we announce that we will shortly cease our commuter operations. The last 784 service will operate from Maidstone on Friday the 5th of May and the last 731 service will operate from Medway on Friday the 26th of May. This has not been an easy decision but the commercial viability of operating our own services has reached a level where it is no longer sustainable. Chalkwell will continue to be a family-owned and operated business, but we will focus on our other activities including coach hire, Day-Breaks and Holidays, and local bus services.
We have valued our commuter customs over the years, and in an effort to ease the inconvenience caused by this change we have put in place alternative arrangements to ensure that you will still benefit from a high quality service for your daily commute. We have agreed an arrangement with the Kings Ferry, whereby all valid Chalkwell tickets will be accepted for travel on the relevant Kings Ferry commuter routes in Swale, Medway or Maidstone. Our existing terms and conditions would continue to apply. The Kings Ferry operate over 38 daily services, with 10 of these operating in the area of Rainham, 12 at Bridgewood , 4 in the Maidstone area and 12 services in the Swale area.. These include routes that are almost identical to the current Chalkwell routes and these arrangements will, in fact, provide you with even more travel options then those currently provided by Chalkwell. We have included a link to the full list of The Kings Ferry services.
As The Kings Ferry ticketing system is unable to accept or identify our current smart card system, it is necessary to put in place a mechanism to ensure the acceptance of valid Chalkwell tickets. This process, for all ticket types, is described below:
• Holders of Annual, 26 week, 5 week Super-Saver or 4 week tickets will be issued with a boarding card, that will scan on boarding a Kings Ferry Service and will be valid for the same period as your existing Chalkwell ticket. This will be sent to your home address in advance of the services changes. You do not need to do anything as we will be automatically issuing these tickets.
• For Multi-Journey GoCards we will issue you with books of single tickets to an equivalent volume to that held on your existing card. These will issued in advance of the service changes . These tickets will then be accepted on the Kings Ferry Services in exchange for travel up until the 1st of September 2017. Details of how to exchange Multi-Journey GoCards s will be sent out in the next few days.
• For clarity your existing smart cards will no longer be valid for travel after the service changes
Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
We recognise that any disruption to your daily commute is extremely frustrating, but hope that by putting in place alternative arrangements that offer an improved choice of travel; this disruption will be minimised. We wish you all the best with your continued commuting and thank you for travelling with Chalkwell.
