Prospective parliamentary candidates in Kent are being offered free tickets to travel to London on election business.

Sittingbourne-based Chalkwell want candidates from all political parties to experience commuting by coach – and for transport to be a key item on their election vote-raising agenda.

Chalkwell’s Commercial Director Roland Eglinton, who has made the unprecedented free travel offer, said their non-political approach was aimed at assisting all candidates to fulfil important duties on behalf of constituents.

“Whether it is attending party headquarters or being in London for other election purposes, candidates are welcome to free travel with Chalkwell.

“We want the election to be high in people’s thoughts because all votes are important and if this helps candidates get their message across we are only too willing to assist.

“At the same time, those candidates who take up our offer will see for themselves the standard of commuter coach provided Monday to Friday, how the coach assists the environment by taking cars off the road and that unlike the train a seat can be guaranteed.

“In our view transport is a burning political issue which we want all candidates to be aware of in their electioneering.  We are completely outside party politics so have no axe to grind whoever wins local seats.

“Registered candidates can contact Chalkwell at to obtain their free travel between now and the election,” Roland added.
